#1 Experiment

 Thermometer

Materials Required : Plastic Water Bottle, Modelling Clay, Plastic Straw, Two Bowls and Food Colour .

What Next ? : Put a few drops of food colouring into the water bottle and fill the bottle with moderately hot water ( lukewarm water ).Insert about half of the straw into the bottle and seal the mouth of the bottle with  modeling clay.

Note : Water will fill about half of the straw.

Use a permanent marker to mark the level of water in the straw. Take a bowl in which it is filled with hot water and take the other bowl and fill it with cold water.Insert the bottle in the bowl which contains the hot water. Observe the change in water level and mark a spot again using the marker. Do the same for the cold water.

Note : If the water rises about the point you first marked, you can assure that it is hot and if it is below, cold.

Result : There, you have made a thermometer. Now you can determine the hotness or coldness of a liquid.
